when the people you've loved have all gone and fled and you can’t escape the darkness in your head when you try to find some hope ahead and half the world’s gone mad and the rest is dead

when the peace that you sought was a lie someone stole from the mouth of a god nobody knows and its broken your spirit and bruised your soul and your chest is left empty and cold

when there’s no more gods or heroes to see you through
no more church or state to water down the truth
that the world is what we’ve made it

that purpose lies in the paths we choose to take
and our redemption lies in the ashes of our shame
